Construction of the Tata semiconductor fab in Dholera is reported at about 50 percent civil completion as of April 2026, with the project moving from structural work toward cleanroom fit-out and equipment integration. We label the figure reported and attribute it to press coverage from that month.
Where the build stands
Reports in April 2026 put the fab's civil works at roughly half done. The next phase, cleanroom construction and the installation of process tools, is where a fab's real cost and complexity sit. A named lithography partnership with ASML, announced on 16 May 2026, points to that equipment phase getting under way.

Trial production of the first chip is targeted for December 2026. No source confirms a chip has been produced yet, so we present it as a target and nothing more. The project's jobs figure, more than 20,000 direct and indirect, is likewise a target tied to the ramp.
How to read a construction milestone
A fab is not finished when the building is finished. After the civil shell comes the cleanroom, the ultra-clean environment where wafers are processed, followed by the arrival, hook-up and qualification of the process tools. Those tools, including the ASML lithography systems now under partnership, are the bulk of the roughly Rs 91,000 crore. So 50 percent civil completion is real and meaningful progress, but it is not the same as being close to making chips. The India Semiconductor Mission is covering 50 percent of eligible cost under a Fiscal Support Agreement signed on 5 March 2025, which is the funding backbone that keeps this schedule moving toward the December 2026 trial-production target.
