Tata Electronics announces ASML partnership for the Dholera semiconductor fab
On 16 May 2026 Tata Electronics confirmed a strategic partnership with ASML to deploy lithography tools at its Dholera fab. The plant, cleared by the Union Cabinet in February 2024 with PSMC as technology partner, is an approximately Rs 91,000 crore project targeting up to 50,000 wafers a month. First-chip trial production is targeted for December 2026.
Tata Electronics said on 16 May 2026 that it has entered a strategic partnership with ASML, the Dutch maker of the lithography systems that pattern advanced chips, to deploy ASML tools at its semiconductor fabrication plant taking shape in Dholera. It is a confirmed step that connects India's first large commercial fab to one of the most critical suppliers in the global chip supply chain.
What Tata and ASML announced
The partnership, announced by Tata Electronics, covers the supply and deployment of ASML lithography systems at the Dholera fab. The plant is a joint effort between Tata Electronics and Taiwan's Powerchip Semiconductor Manufacturing Corporation (PSMC), which is transferring the process technology. The fab is being built by Tata Semiconductor Manufacturing Private Limited under the India Semiconductor Mission.
The fab behind the deal
The Union Cabinet cleared this fab on 29 February 2024. The approved investment is about Rs 91,000 crore, roughly US$11 billion; the PIB Fiscal Support Agreement cites Rs 91,526 crore, with the India Semiconductor Mission covering 50 percent of eligible cost. The Fiscal Support Agreement was signed on 5 March 2025.
- Capacity: up to 50,000 wafers per month on a 300mm line.
- Debut node 28nm, with a mature and specialty portfolio spanning 28, 40, 55, 90 and 110 nm.
- Products: power-management ICs, display drivers, microcontrollers and high-performance computing logic.
- Civil construction reported at about 50 percent complete as of April 2026.
Trial production of the first chip is targeted for December 2026, a milestone stated by the minister and not yet independently confirmed as achieved. The project is expected to create more than 20,000 direct and indirect jobs, a figure that remains a target tied to the fab ramping up.
