What industries are coming to Dholera?
Dholera is planned as a multi-sector manufacturing and industrial city. The anchor already on the ground is semiconductors, led by the Tata fab, alongside an operational solar park. The wider planned sectors listed by DICDL include defence, aviation, electronics, high-tech, pharma and biotech, heavy engineering, auto and ancillary, general manufacturing, agro and food processing, and metals, plus renewables. Only the fab and solar are visible today; the rest is planned capacity, and the difference matters when a seller pitches you jobs that do not exist yet.
Dholera was designed as an industrial city first and a residential one second, which is why the industry question is really the investment question in disguise: jobs bring residents, and residents bring durable land demand. The honest picture separates the two sectors that are actually building from the longer list of sectors the plan invites.
What is actually here
Two industries are visible on the ground. The first is semiconductors, led by the Tata semiconductor fab, a roughly Rs 91,000 crore project built by Tata Electronics with PSMC of Taiwan, approved in February 2024 under the India Semiconductor Mission and designed for up to 50,000 wafers a month. Civil work was reported around 50 percent complete in mid-2026. The second is solar power: the Dholera solar park has a Tata Power 300 MW plant online since April 2022, with a much larger target that is not yet installed. These two are the real anchors.
The planned sector mix
DICDL lists a broad set of target sectors for the SIR: defence, aviation, electronics and semiconductors, high-tech, pharma and biotech, heavy engineering, auto and ancillary, general manufacturing, agro and food processing, and metals, plus renewables. This is a planning intention, a menu of what the zones are zoned to attract, not a roster of companies already operating. The semiconductor anchor is meant to pull an electronics ecosystem around it, which is the most credible near-term extension of the current base.
| Sector | Status | Confidence |
|---|---|---|
| Semiconductors | Fab under construction | Confirmed |
| Solar / renewables | 300 MW online, more planned | Confirmed / target |
| Electronics | Planned, fab-linked ecosystem | Target |
| Defence, aviation, pharma, auto, metals | Planned sectors | Target |
Why the semiconductor anchor matters most
Of everything planned, the fab is the load-bearing beam. A semiconductor plant needs suppliers, chemicals, precision engineering, logistics and a skilled workforce, so if it reaches production it tends to seed an ecosystem rather than sit alone. That is why supporting policy, including the Electronics Components Manufacturing Scheme, is aimed at deepening this base. Whether that ecosystem materialises depends on the fab actually running, with trial production targeted for December 2026, which we tag a target. The bottom line
The industries coming to Dholera are led by semiconductors and solar, which are real and under way, with a broad planned mix of defence, aviation, pharma, electronics, heavy engineering, auto, metals and agro-processing behind them. Treat the anchors as evidence and the rest as intention. The stronger the fab performs, the more of that planned list is likely to follow. Read the wider economic frame in population and jobs.
